Life Directional Coaching, What the…?

Recently I posted that I was a Mentor now, or a Life Directional Coaching…sounds like of mystical, very esoteric even!  I have gotten a LOT of emails about this from friends, family, and clients who thought I had perhaps jumped off the deep end.  Some thought the name was great!  Others called me a sissy boy (Yes I’m looking at you James!)  So I thought I would come clean on where the term came from…Ancient Greece!  Oh wait, that’s mentor not Life Directional Coaching.

In truth it came up in a conversation I was having with a new friend of mine, Tom Zeeb of Profitable Partnerships, when I was trying to describe to him what it is that I do.  You see for the last few years I have been a Business Management Consultant and most recently I have spread out into being a real estate investor and mentor to young (not in age) Entrepreneurs.  In my conversation the term “Life Direction” came up.  It really does embody what I do, after all.

As any of my readers know, or perhaps don’t realize, I believe that living in balance is the path to not only healthy living, opportunity, but more importantly freedom and true happiness.  Each of the three top level areas of living in balance (Health, Wealth, and Fun) are individual facets of our life.  We have our personal life, our business life, our financial life, our social life, our private life, and the list goes on and on.  All of these facets make up the complexity that we call SELF.

So recently, I decided to brand myself as a Life Directional Coach.  I help to coach those (primarily Entrepreneurs) through the hardships of LIFE.  All the facets of LIFE that affect their business and balance…but primarily business. ;)   I have to be honest here, I am a very private person and I was not really all that sure of whether or not I wanted to “out” myself as a coach/mentor/etc fully, yet I knew it was my path…it is after all a HUGE responsibility helping a young (again not age!) Entrepreneur move forward through the trials of that life and learning how to Live IN Balance.  Yet it is extremely exciting and fulfilling!

So here is my question to all of you, my readers, what do you think of the term Life Directional Coach?  Is there a better name out there?  Is it an AWESOME title/description of what I do?  Or is it lame?

James…you are not allowed to comment, nor are you allowed to rally your supporters!

Adjustments in Life

This has been a busy week to say the least.  One of our businesses has been recently expanded to include lead generation for real estate investors, so I have been working out the numbers for how much to charge per lead, bundle deals, subscriptions, etc, etc, etc.  Another of my businesses has recently partnered with a local real estate guru to run his affiliate business, helping him and his staff to expand their marketing online and get a wider penetration on the web.  All of these have been occurring this week, not to mention the day to day operations of following up on leads (Thanks Peg!), invoicing clients, meeting with new clients, and meeting with current clients.  Needless to say it’s been a busy week, and that’s just business and not personal stuff (and you can bet that the list of personal stuff is actually much longer than the business!)

But I am not writing to complain about my busy life, no not in the least.  This past week has been a blast!  Full of new endeavors, and learning a lot of new stuff.  The most important thing that has recently happened is that my beautiful wife K has been officially released from her J.O.B.  You see, she has been suffering from chronic back pain for the last 8 or 9 months, and while she really hasn’t needed to work for some time now, it has been her security blanket.  That warm fuzzy blankie that keeps us “safe”…you know the one, because if you look at your life you will find that you have one, two, or maybe even more of these security blankets.  The little things that keep you tied down to doing the same behaviors that have bound you to the same life.  When you release those chains, life becomes real.  Life becomes powerful.  Life becomes yours.

I believe that we hold on to these security blankets, whether they be jobs, partners, “friends”, social groups, etc, due to the fact that they make us feel justified in our keeping them.  Am I saying that all those things listed are truly holding you back, no I am not.  What I am saying, however, is Read the rest of this entry

What is the “Investor Lifestyle?”

I get asked this question a lot, which sort of surprises me. Recently I had one of my clients’ say, “Dan, what exactly is the Investor Lifestyle?”

“What do you think it is?” I quickly replied.

“Honestly, I imagine that it’s living without worrying about paying my bills, enjoying time with my children, and going to exotic places for vacation.” she said after thinking about it for a short time.

“Well there you have it; that is the Investor Lifestyle.”

I went on to explain that I can not define her Vision of what that Lifestyle is, nor would I want to. To be honest, the Investor Lifestyle is completely personal. It is self defined. For some of my colleagues it means having thousands of loyal students learning their craft (real estate investing or otherwise), while some want to have the expensive car, big house(s), and fashionable clothing. But that is not everyone’s Vision, for quite a few it simply means doing something that they love (which could actually be their job, but not very often!) or just having the choice/freedom to live each and every day to its fullest.

Living the Investor Lifestyle is all about choice. That choice is defined by the individual, not the environment. Those of us who live it decided at some point in their life Read the rest of this entry
